Master are you sure we are heading in the right direction? The Blade on impulses back questioned.
Of course karite. This is were the villagers said we could find the thief king and their lost treasure he pocketed. Impulse told karite. Walking south towards the mountains had indeed been a wise decision for they had soon found, and defeated a wyvern that was causing trouble for the village close by. In the preceding months both impulse and karite had found and either vanquished or exiled everything reeking of foul intent. Impulse had also learned through these battles of the powers in which karite had told him about when he was reborn. What he didnt understand was why they were so weak.
Be patient master your powers must grow with experience and you must also find a staff or wand to channel your energy through for swords and spears are ineffective. karite had told him. Looking up at the drifting clouds above he knew even if he couldnt find a wand or staff his meager powers and karites sharp edge would do them for the moment. Impulse walked down the trail silently for what seemed like ages then karite broke it.
Master impulse there is the cave where the villagers told us the thief king and his brigands reside in. Karite said pointing it out with his and impulses telekinetic bond. Out side the cavern stood four of what impulse deemed the worst looking evil things to call themselves human. Each of the brigands stood at least six feet tall and each wielded a sword that looked more like a jagged saw blade tied to a rusted hilt.
How do you suppose we defeat them master? Karite asked.
They dont look that bright so we should get up close and blind them then its only a matter of how many slashes it takes to down them all. replied impulse. Sneaking toward a better vantage point impulse calculated what spell he would need and checked all of his armour and equipment.
Are you ready karite? impulse asked with finality.
Of course master. said karite with equal finality. Impulse shot out of the bushes with so much speed that the thieves didnt even know he was there until it was too late. Truth blind the eyes!! Thought impulse as the magic flew through his hands. All at once every thief clutched their eyes or hit the ground in pain. It took nine slashes to eliminate all four thieves and each slash felt like chopping at a thick log. With all four of the guards defeated impulse sheathed karite and cautiously went into the cave. Looking around impulse noticed that the gold and valuables that were stashed here was double the amount of things stolen from the village who begged him to help them. The he heard it: laughter only this laughter was twisted and foul. What was even worse was that it was coming from behind him.
I do congratulate you no one has ever made it this far into my home. said a deep voice. I am impressed that you destroyed my four best warriors but you will not defeat me and the demon blade I have acquired from my years of thievery. And with that the thief king charged at impulse. Swinging around and unsheathing karite impulse barely had time to block the foulest blade he had ever seen in his life. Looking at him with insanity in his eyes the thief king began a relentless assault on impulse. Blow after blow impulse wondered if he could keep up much longer with the mad king. One final blow by the king sent impulse flying back which gave him enough time to deliver his killing strike.
NOW YOU DIE WARRIOR!! screamed the king in blood lust as he swung downward.
NO MASTER!!! karite yelled. The magical blade thrust itself in front of impulse taking the killing blow. When both blades clashed a blinding light filled the cavern. When both combatants opened their eyes all that was left of both blades was ash on the ground. Impulse stared in horror for a few seconds and then fury began to build within him.
You. Will. Die! yelled impulse as he scanned the cave for any type of weapon. Finally his eyes settled upon and old stick that looked like the only decent weapon in a ten foot radius.
BURN IN HELL THIEF KING!! bellowed impulse as suddenly the king burst into flames. The king screamed and dropped to the ground as the flames increased until there was nothing more than a pile of ash. Looking at the feeble old stick impulse wondered how he had done that when he knew fire magic was beyond his reach when the answer came suddenly.
What is your will oh new master? A voice came quite suddenly out of the blue. Impulse looked around hoping it was karite who had talked but one of the ash piles had blew out that idea. Finally it dawned on him and he looked toward the stick he was holding.
Are you a wand? impulse asked the branch.
I am whatever you want me to be master weather it be a wand, staff, sword, or shield. I am one of the five blades of man. the new found wand explained to him. My name is hellige and we must find my brother seiteki for if I have awakened surly all the others have.
You can turn into a blade then? Asked impulse.
Of course. The wand replied as-a-matter-factly and with that a bright light enveloped the wand. When the light dissipated impulse saw that he was holding a stunning golden sword that looked like it was built for an angelic warrior.
Shall we get going then master? hellige asked. Looking back at where karites ashes were impulse said a quick prayer for his souls safe return to watcher and then sheathed hellige.
where to ten hellige? asked impulse not knowing where any of the other five blades of man could be.
We head south, toward the lake of healing where my brother is buried, then we must ensure that the evil blades never find their next masters. hellige replied calmly. Picking up the rest of what he dropped during the fray, impulse then headed out of the cave and toward the southern borders.
